After experiencing church hurt I found myself walking wounded.

Some of you may be like me and have hurtful experiences, which may have led you to doubt your own faith and the church.  I understand because I’ve been there. I too yearned for an authentic, Jesus-centered, healing, and restorative faith community. My experience inspired me to create a soft landing place for others who long for the same.

Hi, I’m Robrenna!

After I left the church building I began to deconstruct my faith by crying out to God, searching his word and stripping everything down to Jesus. Jesus alone is the mender of broken hearts, the defender of the oppressed, and the sender of God’s love and grace.

I’m a wife, mama, writer, podcast host, coffee lover, and survivor. I went from military brat to military vet. I’m a real, raw no-filters kind of girl so I don’t do small talk.  I like to dig deep and be a safe place for people to have real and hard conversations.

 I volunteer for the anti-sex trafficking organization I’ve Got A Name and I’m an apprentice facilitator for the Trauma Healing Institute

I live in Lincoln, Nebraska with my husband of 21 years, also a retired veteran, two young adult children, and our 60lb coughing labradoodle, Evie. I’ve served in women’s, children’s, and middle school ministries.

It all started when I began to grapple with how the church handled hard conversations and its reluctance to do hard things with clarity and courage.

The summer of 2020 injustice awakening, along with the backdrop of a pandemic, spurred a desire in me to have open conversations. I started the podcast to engage in conversation with some of my white friends who had an invested interest in the black community through adoption, an interracial marriage, or multi-ethnic children.

Those conversations led to the first five episodes of GRIT titled Conversations in Black and White. From there, I knew more conversations were necessary to show us where we were complicit and going wrong as the body of Christ.


I help guide people who lack trust after being spiritually wounded by the church by providing resources and an authentic faith community.

  GRIT asks hard questions, searches scripture, and provides meaningful conversations about what’s going on in our world regarding race, women, injustice, and other issues the church is reluctant to address.  When we recognize our failings we can actively participate in God’s work to bring about repentance, reconciliation, and restoration. We do this in hopes of creating a safe, authentic, compassionate, and spirit-filled community that puts knowledge, the love of Christ, and compassion into action.
